Our Stem Cell Banking Solution (iPS Cell Banking):

Overview of Stem Cell Banking:

Introduction to Stem Cell Banking: Learn about the importance and benefits of stem cell banking and how it can be a vital part of your health strategy.

As you age, your body’s ability to produce healthy, young cells begins to decline. Leading to longer repair and recovery time and more prone to illness and disease in the later years of our lives.

The Problem: Ageing Population in Singapore

The Solution: Transforming the Future Medicine with iPS Cell Banking

Adult stem cells can divide or self-renew indefinitely, enabling them to generate a range of cell types or even regenerate the entire original organ.

According to Harvard Stem Cell Institute, "New evidence indicates that a progressive decline in stem cell frequency and function may significantly contribute to the conditions related to aging, but it is not known why this is."

What Are Stem Cells?

Stem Cells can divide or self-renew indefinitely, enabling them to generate a range of cell types or even regenerate the entire original organ

  • What Are iPS cells?

    • In 1998, the first human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) were isolated and have since been exploited in cell therapies for diseases and injuries such as diabetes and spinal cord injury.

    • Obtained through the reprogramming of mouse embryonic fibroblasts by introducing pluripotency-related factors in 2006, Professor Shinya Yamanaka of the Gladstone Institute, San Francisco and Kyoto University, Japan, developed a strategy to convert them to an embryo-like state called induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs). Since then, scientists have converted various types of adult cells to iPSCs for research and clinical applications.

    • This groundbreaking discovery was awarded a Nobel Prize in 2012 for its phenomenal promise to transform modern medicine.

    • The term “pluripotent” was first coined in 1961 when the first stem cells were derived from mouse bone marrow cells. These pluripotent stem cells possess the unique ability to transform into almost any tissue within your body.

Benefits of iPS Cell Banking

The Power to Restore Cellular Performance

iPS Cell (iPSC) are the most potent stem cells that are capable of building or restoring potentially all cell types

  • They are specific adult cells that have programmed to have all characteristics of the embryonic cells

  • Hence, iPSC has the potential to be the solutions for numerous incurable disease

  • More than 1,000 trials  and research conducted globally to utilize iPSC as first line therapy for major disease
